The Ortega-Murillo regime unleashed its entire arsenal of insults, typical of vice-dictator Rosario Murillo, in a note addressed to the European Union (EU). In the letter, it called the bloc interventionist, daring, savage and even genocidal, in response to a call made by European countries for the Nicaraguan dictatorship to cease repression and respect civic spaces.
“The Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of Nicaragua clarifies to the gentlemen of the European Union that Nicaragua is a blessed, free, sovereign country and homeland, and therefore, it is not a colony, nor does it receive or obey orders from any country in the world,” says the communication signed by “the Presidency”; however, it contains Murillo’s typical vocabulary, loaded with undiplomatic adjectives.
The reason for the Nicaraguan dictatorship’s harsh response is a call made this week by the European bloc to stop the repression.
According to a note published by the Europa Press news agency, the High Representative for the Foreign Service of the EU, Josep Borrell, expressed the concern of the countries of the group about the situation in Nicaragua.

Borrell openly criticized the restrictions imposed on civic space in the Central American country following the recent closure of 1,500 NGOs ordered by the dictatorship. The EU demanded that the Ortega regime “immediately cease these repressive actions and respect the right to dissent.”
The European bloc also insisted on the urgent need to “restore fundamental freedoms in Nicaragua.” The measures requested include the release of all political prisoners and the readmission of human rights organizations that have been expelled from the country.
The organization also urged the Nicaraguan regime to initiate an “authentic and inclusive” dialogue with all sectors of society to address the legitimate demands of citizens and the international community.
Hate-filled response
The European suggestions did not sit well with Ortega and Murillo, who reacted with a note “from the Presidency” in which they asserted that “the decisions of the Nicaraguan authorities are made based on the Constitution of the Republic and the laws that they adopt as a country,” something far from the truth, since the Ortega-Murillos are branded as the main violators of the Carta Marga.
“We remind the gentlemen of the European Union that the history on which their countries are based is one of atrocities and crimes against humanity, committed in the voracious desire to subjugate peoples, to snatch away wealth, natural and cultural heritage and the supreme intelligence of the continents of the world,” says the statement clearly dictated by Murillo.
The regime accuses Europe of being proud of the “savagery, barbarism, and immorality with which they conquered countries and peoples, taking everything from them in exchange for nothing.”
The Managua regime, accused of committing crimes against humanity against the people of Nicaragua after its brutal repression of social protests in 2018, which resulted in at least 355 deaths, also accused the EU of committing genocide.

“The genocide that is committed daily in Gaza is just a pale reflection of the bloody crusades and conquests of the Empires, the colonizers and the neocolonialists who still, boldly, try to dictate norms to a world that not only ignores them, but condemns them,” the dictatorship said.
“Enough of interference, falsehoods, falsifications and abuses in the name of a supposed and theatrical democracy that bathed in blood, misery, sweat and tears the territories where they settled to kill, exterminate and rob,” the text states.
Nicaragua’s dictators say they reject the accusations of the “European gentlemen” and demand “respect for the models and ways of life of brave, free peoples, who strongly reject the hypocrisy of their interventionist voices.”
Finally, the Ortega-Murillo dictatorship demands that the demands they have made of Europe be met, without mentioning what demands they are referring to. What they do explain is that they call the members of the European bloc “phonies” and also describe them as “shameless, arrogant” and “the worst and most sacrilegious human species.”
