Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo continue to strengthen their rapprochement with Russia. Medvedev stressed that during the videoconference they addressed the issues of “political interaction of our countries and cooperation between parties.” During the meeting they also took the opportunity to continue with the anti-imperialist discourse, recalling “what we have had to live through, face, fight and win in our different moments, historical times and times of history, glory and victory, what we are experiencing. They still believe that they sail in times past, in centuries past, that they still believe they can see us from above, with their noses up. Lawyer Juan Diego Barberena, a member of the Blue and White National Unity (Unab), recently stated that Ortega’s support for Russia will trigger “strong geopolitical consequences” for the Nicaraguan regime.
