Ortega accuses Costa Rica of being "a terrorist base" who conspires against you

The president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, accused Costa Rica of maintaining a “terrorist base”, sponsored by the United States and the European Union, who allegedly “conspired against the municipal elections” on Sunday, assigned entirely to the ruling party.

Ortega said that despite this, “in a historical event” there were no attacks, no stones, no clubbing in the voting. “There are no bullets and there are no injuries, not a single drop of blood has flowed,” he stressed.

“Despite that, of the millions that have been invested from Costa Rica. Costa Rica is a base that they have there, they did not manage to provoke acts of violence, because this people is already convinced that a vote is worth more than a drop of blood for the progress and well-being of the country,” added the president.

The Costa Rican government led by President Rodrigo Chaves responded this Wednesday to the remarks after being consulted by journalists during a press conference.

“Costa Rica is not the base of any terrorist group, the government of the Republic adheres to international norms of coexistence, we do not give refuge to any terrorist, nor does he attack any neighboring country,” Chaves assured.

The president insisted that Costa Rica is a country that promotes peace and does not have armed forces and therefore is “a shining example for the world of how democracy can and should work.”

More than 31 detainees in the framework of the municipal elections

On the other hand, despite Ortega’s remarks that the municipal elections were held “in peace and harmony,” Nicaraguan organizations such as Urnas Abiertas reported a total of 31 people who were arrested from November 1 to 6, who voted .

“Daniel Ortega continues to sow terror in Nicaraguans just so that no one would dare to carry out any protest action on the day of the electoral farce,” Pablo Cuevas, director of the Miami-based Human Rights Ombudsman, said in this regard.

The ruling party was declared the winner of all the municipalities in a vote in which the opposition did not participate and which has been described by the United States as a new farce.
