This Wednesday, March 16, a strong controversy was generated through social networks.

The mayor of Canelones, Yamandú Orsi, issued a message through a video that he posted on his Twitter account, about the referendum against 135 articles of the Law of Urgent Consideration (LUC).

The head of the departmental government of the Canary Islands expressed that “now there is an electoral climate throughout the country”, and remarked that “up to the present of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, heads one of the campaigns in this fight for the referendum”.

“My contribution today does not have many pretensions, but it occurs to me that it is appropriate to greet everyone, although they know very well that I adhere to the repeal of the 135 articles, I vote ‘Yes,’ the pink ballot,” he said.

Orsi said that the day of March 27 “should be a great civic party, a democratic party, for all Uruguayans.”

“We dare to take the laws into our hands and give our opinions, discuss and decide. That is not even close to preventing government, on the contrary, it strengthens us as a Republic, as a democracy, as what we are and that has generated so much admiration abroad, “said the Canarian head of government.

He added that 800,000 signatures were reached and now we all have to go vote. “We voted ‘Yes,’ because we consider that issues as important as education, rents, the National Colonization Institute, security, and the mechanism for setting fuel prices, which have such an impact on the cost of living All of this should be discussed in greater depth.

“Nearly 500 articles on some 40 different subjects were voted on and approved in 90 days. That is not good, that is bad for this government and for those who come. That is why serious work is needed in Parliament with the interested parties, and even with the Congress of Mayors. It’s nice to be Uruguayan because we practice democracy every day. Vote ‘Yes’”, he pointed out.

“You are not democratic”

Orsi’s message did not sit well with the nationalist senator, Graciela Bianchi, who also immediately responded with a video on Twitter.

“This video is aimed at people who want to hide who they really are, for example: Yamandú Orsi. I deeply regret doing it with a first and last name, but I just saw a video, very professional, mine is very homemade, because I don’t have the economic resources that the sector you belong to has, the MPP, civil name of the MLN-T, who has a lot of money, some of very obscure origin. We will be able to get to the true reality of him, it is a matter of continuing to investigate, ”said Bianchi.

He added: “You are not democratic, because you are a Marxist-Leninist, because you are allied with the Communist Party, because you are as Marxist-Leninist as the Orthodox Socialist Party. Because the MPP does not want the Republic and democracy”.

“I am not going to allow you, and if I could I would say it to your eyes and when we meet I will tell you, that you are not telling the truth, that the LUC did not discuss enough. Don’t lie anymore. Because the time that had to be discussed was discussed in the Commission that had to be discussed, in both chambers. Constitutionally, it has ten days less time than the five-year Budget Law, which had more than 800 articles. So we discussed them well”, remarked Bianchi.

The white legislator remarked that, in any case, “she would speak very ill of the Broad Front that approved 52% of the articles and co-drafted some of those that they want to repeal.”

“What they want is to put sticks on the government and I would say more, what they want is to open the doors to the totalitarian regimes that you admire, even if you don’t say so. Because if you didn’t admire the totalitarian regimes that are advancing in Latin America and that are being very dangerous in the world, you wouldn’t be in the MPP, you wouldn’t be a Tupamaro. You are a history teacher, honor what you are supposed to know, what totalitarian regimes mean for humanity. In Uruguay, you will not go through arms or votes”, Bianchi pointed out.
