The meeting took place at the Braco Bosca winery, located in Piedra del Toro, Canelones, and began shortly before nine in the morning. The only absentee was the designated vice chancellor, Valeria Zucassi, who is carrying out diplomatic functions abroad.
“We started working as a cabinet,” Orsi said at a press conference, highlighting that the future leaders received the folders with information from the different ministries delivered on Friday by the current government. As he explained, each ministry must analyze these materials to establish a solid starting point. “It is a process that takes time, but when you want to agree we are already there in March and we must have as much information as possible for point zero, the starting point,” he emphasized.
The elected president stressed that the cabinet’s work will be guided by three central priorities: economic growth, social protection and childhood and security. «Part of a battery of proposals that people are waiting for, it is not the [proyecto] yours or that other minister’s, it belongs to everyone,” he stated, adding that each ministry will raise its specific priorities within these general lines.
Regarding the dynamics of transition, Orsi pointed out that the future Secretary of the Presidency, Alejandro Sánchez, and the future Pro-Secretary, Jorge Díaz, will present the progress achieved so far. He also indicated that, although there are no meetings planned with outgoing president Luis Lacalle Pou before March, there could be contacts if the need arises. “If we don’t meet it is because everything is flowing normally, beyond the occasional phone call,” he pointed out.
Finally, Orsi mentioned that the 48 proposals presented during the campaign in Cologne are being taken as a basis to guide the management of the State Secretariats, as well as for the preparation of the National Budget, which will define the financial resources of the next government period.
