In a press conference held yesterday, the mayor of Canelones and pre-candidate for the presidency for the broad front, Yamandu Orsicriticized President Luis Lacalle Pou for his statements on the state of the union hall of the IAVA high school.
Orsi accused the president of ignoring the reality of public schools and cutting the education budget, saying his criticism of the state of the union hall’s walls was unfounded.
“There is a lack of knowledge of what public education is, which is logical, because if you never set foot in a public school and you still have the luxury of cutting the budget…”, Orsi affirmed.
Last Wednesday, President Lacalle Pou referred to the state of the IAVA student union hall at a press conference. “We all know that schools, high schools, UTUs belong to everyone, they all bank with their taxes. Does anyone in your house do what they do in that room? Is anyone willing to be defaced and dirty at home?” said the president.
In addition, Orsi criticized the decision of the education authorities to prosecute and remove from office the director of the IAVA, Leonardo Ruidíaz, for refusing to vacate a classroom of the student union before the Tourism Week. “The response seemed exaggerated to me, the summary with separation of charges. It seems exaggerated to me and does not contribute ”, Orsi finished.
