This will allow infrastructure and public space works to be carried out with a total investment of 43 million dollars, which will generate more than two thousand jobs in the department, he reported.
Accompanied by his government team, the Canarian leader reported at a press conference that the loan granted by Brou is up to $1.9 billion in indexed units, to be paid in 15 years with a two-year grace period and an interest rate of 4 %. “At that time a rate of 7% was proposed and today we can happily say that what was achieved through this mechanism, with the unanimous approval of the entire Banco de la República, was a rate of 4%, so therefore, much more beneficial”, he communicated.
In turn, he added that the Court of Auditors approved it without observations and pointed out that the rating agency CARE granted them an investment grade. “As a conclusion, we recognize that the characteristics and financial conditions are more favorable than those that were initially proposed,” he reaffirmed
In this sense, the Mayor of Canelones announced that next year —in 18 months— they will have infrastructure works and works in public spaces with a total of 43 million dollars, in addition to what is already being invested in works, which he indicated that in 2021 it was almost 15 million dollars, in 2022 it was 19 and a half million and “it will continue at that rate, with its own funds.”
He emphasized that public investment in the department is increased by 43 million, “which affects many jobs, in principle more than 2,000 if we add each of the interventions, affects infrastructure works in 28 municipalities and a number important works in public spaces”.
Regarding contracting, he indicated that there will be between 15 and 20 more companies that will carry out architectural works in the department, “in a year as special as 2023, when the works of UPM, the railway, the port, will be completed. where the construction union itself is raising the need for more works to appear so that this mass of workers has permanent activity”.
In addition, he clarified that “every peso that Afisa takes” is destined for a specific work, which, according to what he said, generates certainty and transparency. “The destination is well marked, therefore transparency is guaranteed. For us, this is very good news, because this institution is showing certainty and a sense of responsibility, fundamentally the responsibility with the citizens and the work in the department”, Orsi remarked.
It was reported that, through this trust, 53 road interventions will be carried out in 28 municipalities. The total intervention reaches 168 km of streets, including neighborhood consolidation works, paving, hydraulic works and construction of sidewalks.
The urban conditioning works add up to a total of 23 interventions, in addition to the acquisition of urban equipment.
Regarding the investment for the acquisition of vehicles for people with disabilities, the objective is to guarantee the right to mobility of people with disabilities, framed within the Canelones Accessibility Project. After the conference, Mayor Orsi was consulted about this and stated: “there will be around 10 vehicles. No child with a disability will be left out of school. One million will be invested for this #, he stressed.
This will be possible through the improvement of the public transport system, increasing the number of accessible cars, the frequency and the adjustment of schedules.
Also with the expansion of the City Hall’s accessible locomotion system through the purchase of 10 accessible vehicles: 9-passenger vans with capacity for up to two wheelchairs; 15-passenger vans with capacity for up to 4 wheelchairs; and a 19-passenger minibus with a capacity of up to 6 wheelchairs, it was noted.
