Orsi called to respect political differences and expressed his commitment to govern for all Uruguayans, without party distinction.
“Victory is not assured, but there is little left,” Orsi told his followers. «We are not going to govern only for those who voted for us, we are going to govern for everyone and seek the happiness of all the Uruguayan people. “We are not going to qualify anyone nor are we going to fire anyone from the public administration for voting for another party,” he stated, in response to the Björgan episode. Orsi highlighted the importance of not disrespecting or considering a professional who decides to support a different option as a “traitor.”
With a background screen that alternated the national flag and shield, Orsi defended the Broad Front’s proposals and recalled that the party’s program was approved last year. In reference to the recent presentation of a government plan by his opponent, he said: “We were much faster. It’s okay, better late than never, but it is a good thing to have some concrete proposal in a plan, in a program, or in programmatic bases.
In addition, Orsi emphasized the need for political agreements and highlighted his experience in the department of Canelones, where, according to him, as mayor he achieved consensus with councilors and mayors from different parties. “I wish everyone could demonstrate the same thing,” he said, referring to the coordination of policies that have benefited his department. As an example, he cited a case in which national authorities had tried to block an initiative approved at the local level: “They gave the order from the Executive Tower that we could not vote, that we could not agree, but we managed it anyway, because the “People have their own heads.”
