Orsi about war to drug trafficking: “The most powerful countries have lost”

Yamandú Orsi will announce his cabinet next Tuesday, December 17

The elected president of Uruguay, Yamandú Orsi, referred to the recent statements of his future Interior Minister, Carlos Negro, who said that the war against drug trafficking is lost. At a press conference, Orsi explained that this analysis responds to a global reality: “The countries with greater resources and power have failed, at least in certain areas of the fight against drug trafficking,” he said, referring to the constant flow of cocaine towards Europe.

Despite this international panorama, Orsi highlighted two priority commitments nationwide: reduce violence rates in Uruguayan society and stop consumption and drug addiction. “In the drug problem there is a link with violence and crime, but also with public health,” said the president -elect.

Orsi stressed that, although the worldwide fight against drugs faces serious obstacles, the real challenge in Uruguay lies in addressing these problems internally, protecting the population and working in solutions to mitigate social and health damage. “Our commitments are clear: to combat violence and face the damage that addiction causes to the health and well -being of our people,” he concluded.
