Orlando Pérez from Unprofa: “Distributors have only recognized 10% of medicines that we cannot sell”

Pérez stressed that at this time there is no human way to comply with this decree, since they consider that the Executive did not give them time for implementation.

The owners of small pharmacies continue to be concerned about the 30% discount on 170 medications, established by decree No. 17 by the Executive.

The president of the Union of Pharmacy Owners (Unprofa), Orlando Pérez, explained that almost 20 days have passed since they closed more than 450 pharmacies nationwide to demand the repeal of said decree, and to date, the Distributors have only recognized 10% of medicines that they cannot sell, since they are part of that list issued by the National Government.

“We continue the same as if we were on the first day. This has caused a health problem for the Panamanian population when they go to the pharmacy and they cannot find their products. In addition, the pharmacies are not selling what was sold before; Products that are right now on the list of 170 are equivalent to 70 or 80% of the sales of each pharmacy. Pharmacies have decreased sales because we do not have to cover operating expenses and the payment of collaborators, “he said.

Pérez stressed that at this time there is no human way to comply with this decree, since they consider that the Executive did not give them time for implementation.

On Monday morning, Unprofa filed a nullity complaint with the Third Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) to suspend Decree No. 17, which authorizes the 30% reduction of 170 medicines.
