Orinoco River exceeds the red alert in Delta Amacuro and leaves 70 communities flooded

The Orinoco River level in Delta Amacuro reached the red alert on Friday, August 15, located at 7.54 meters above sea level.

The previous Thursday remained on a yellow alert with 7.48 meters, which represents an increase of 6 centimeters in just 24 hours, according to the official report of the Government of Delta Amacuro.

The 7.50 -meter critical level was exceeded due to the torrential rains that were registered between Tuesday and Wednesday over the Delta.

The official report indicates that at least 70 communities are flooded, including sectors of the municipalities Antonio Díaz, Casacoima and Tucupita River.

The state governor, Loa Tamaronis, along with her work team, has been touring the affected areas to provide direct attention to the affected families. Aid, the Government reported, include medicines, food, hammocks, mosquito nets and other essential belongings to face the emergency.

On Thursday, August 14, Tamaronis visited the Castles of Guayana, in the Casacoima municipality, after receiving reports from families affected by floods. Days before, a cargo with inputs arrived at the State as part of the support of the National Government.

It is estimated that the Orinoco River will continue to rise until August 25, date on which it could begin to decrease its level. Meanwhile, a part of the inhabitants of the Middle Delta is in shelters while others remain in their homes after lifting trojas. Others, on the other hand, moved to higher areas such as Tucupita, Deltana Capital, and Barrancas, in the Monagas state.
