Trade union and human rights organizations have reported this Sunday, February 1, the release of at least a dozen political prisoners, held in the Sebin Helicoide, the Yare II prison and police commandos from several states in the country.
«At this time there are several releases of political prisoners from El Helicoide. We are verifying each one. “We celebrate that the release of political prisoners continues immediately and that the amnesty process progresses in parallel,” express Alfredo Romero, president of the Penal Forum on social networks.
The releases occur after the announcement of a general amnesty law that, according to Delcy Rodríguez, will cover the acts of “political violence” from 1999 to the present. Since last January 8, a process of releases under precautionary measures has been carried out. The Public Ministry has indicated that there are more than 643 released from prison, while organizations such as the Penal Forum counted 310 released from prison as of Friday, January 30.
Among those released this Sunday are Javier Tarazona, director of the NGO Fundaredes. He was arrested on July 2, 2021 when he went to the Prosecutor’s Office headquarters in Coro (Falcón state) to report that he was a victim of police harassment and persecution. He was charged with incitement to hatred, terrorism and “treason.”
Before being arrested, the university professor denounced links between senior government officials and guerrilla groups on the Venezuelan border.

Luis Isturizpolitical secretary of Vente Venezuela in the state of Miranda, was arrested on Saturday, August 24, 2024 by Sebin officials in Guarenas. He spent weeks in isolation until they could see him at the Sebin Helicoide, where he was being held. He was sentenced in December to 20 years in prison.

Yandir Loggiodice, former deputy and national general secretary of the Democratic Center Party (PCD). He was arbitrarily detained since July 14, 2025. His family reported in recent days about his serious health situation, as he requires the replacement of a brain valve.
Víctor Castillo, agricultural producer from Santa Rosalía (Portuguesa state). He was arrested on April 28, 2024, when Sebin officials broke into his residence. He was Edmundo González’s campaign manager in that municipality and was charged with the alleged crimes of conspiracy and association to commit a crime.
The Italian-Venezuelan citizen Mauricio Giampaoli, imprisoned since March 23, 2024.
Willians Díaz Rolong, who had been arrested on May 12, 2025.

Guillermo de Jesús López, lawyer and head of the Con Vzla Command in the state of Trujillo. He was arrested on January 23, 2024.
Rodrigo Pérez Mejías, Vente communications coordinator in the state of Bolívar. He was arrested on July 6, 2025 by Sebin officials in Puerto Ordaz. He was held at the Guaiparo police station, in San Félix.

Omaira Salazar, community leader from the state of Bolívar, who was detained on October 24, 2024 by Sebin officials in Puerto Ordaz. She participated as a voting center coordinator in the presidential elections that year. She was being held at the Vizcaíno Police Station, located in San Félix.

Blanca Guerrero and José Castellanos, mother and brother of journalist Omario Castellanos, who was released from prison on January 14 under precautionary measures. Guerrero and his two children were arbitrarily detained on October 16, 2025. They were detained in the Yare prison.

Pedro Javier Fernández, urologist and professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Los Andes. He was arrested by Sebin officials on October 20, 2025 in Mérida. He was being held in the Yare II prison.
Orangel Tabares, community leader and leader of Vente Venezuela in the state of Anzoátegui. Arrested in October 2025, he was held in Yare II prison.
Lorenia Gutiérrez Bolívar, political training coordinator for Vente Venezuela in the Caroní municipality (Bolívar state). She was arrested on August 25, 2025 by hooded officers who entered her home. She was held in the National Institute of Women’s Guidance (INOF), located in Los Teques (Miranda state).
