MIAMI, United States. — The Center for a Free Cuba (CFC) demanded this week the departure of the Cuban regime from the United Nations Human Rights Council.
After Russia’s suspension of that body last Thursday, the CFC requested that the same measure be applied to Cuba, China, Venezuela and other countries where there are systematic violations of human rights.
Through a petition On the Change.org platform, the non-governmental organization assured that “the Castro regime does not deserve to be on the Council undermining international human rights standards.”
“We request that the UN General Assembly invoke Article 8 of the Council’s founding resolution and remove the Castro regime in Cuba due to its serious and systematic violations of human rights. More than ever, the world has to be on the side of the victims in Cuba, and not the wrongdoer,” the CFC statement states.
The organization added that while it was a serious mistake to include Havana in the multilateral mechanism, “now is the time to clean up the dysfunctional Human Rights Council so that it can fulfill its duties at this critical moment.”
The Center for a Free Cuba (CFC) highlights that the Cuban regime not only persecutes and criminalizes political opponents, but also openly represses any citizen who demonstrates peacefully against the dictatorship, as happened on July 11.

The NGO also denounced Havana’s support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, in which thousands of Ukrainian deaths have already been recorded, as well as war crimes.
Cuban activist Rosa María Payá, coordinator of the Platform Cuba decidesrecently stated in Madrid that Cuba should be the next country to be expelled from the United Nations Human Rights Council.
“It is shameful that Cuba is in the Council, when Russia leaves, Cuba has to follow and not only its own, but that of all the dictatorships that currently sit there,” said the opponent in an interview offered to the EFE Agency.
