The organization of Drivers and Small Owners of Trucks of Chile confirmed that at 6:00 am on Tuesday they will begin a nationwide strike. In addition, they summoned other unions, such as the National Confederation of Truck Owners of Chile (CNDC) and the Federation of Truck Owners of the South (Fedesur) for not joining the stoppage.
Let us remember that this Monday morning a group of truckers held a strike on Route 5 South, at the height of Paine, requesting greater security guarantees on the roads and a drop in fuel and TAG prices. From Drivers and Small Truck Owners they clarified that this mobilization was not called by them and that it had a sectorized character.

“The people who are in the north are fighting for Arica, super sectorized (…) The people who are in Paine today are all those truckers who work in Las Vegas, they do not belong to the call of the 25th, nor to the call for the 26th, which is what we are calling for,” said the organization’s director, Pamela Saeza emmol.

Saéz indicated that “we do not belong – and that is why this group is called that – to any federation or to any big-name company. They are only drivers and small truck owners. We called for this strike because we could not be absent from everything that is happening to citizens, not least to our drivers who continue to be attacked throughout our country”.
“We are very clear that these great federations and great gentlemen have always liked to have talks behind closed doors. Which we are not going to do, if they invite us to La Moneda we will all go,” he added.
“For us, they are not representative. Things are done face to face, with a first and last name, and a telephone number, because those who disagree with us can call us and claim us,” he added.
Among the organization’s requests are modifications to the Juan Barrios Law. “We want the modification of this law returning to the original proposal and not to the modified one that is in force today,” Saéz told the aforementioned media outlet.
“We are also fighting for the specific tax on fuels and stabilization funds. A complementary insurance for all our drivers, a complementary health insurance for the worker in general, we are also concerned about the extreme south zone, road and maritime connectivity there is, they desperately need it,” he added.
