Oral trial for homicide and injuries in the case of the PH Costa Mare will be held on January 2, 2024

January 2, 2024 is the date set for the oral trial for two people for wrongful death and wrongful injuries, in the case of PH Costa Mare.

The Homicide and Femicide Section of the Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office managed to set the date during an intermediate hearing held this Wednesday.

At PH Costa Mare, located in Costa Sur, Don Bosco district, an explosion occurred due to a gas leak in apartment 73E, on May 31, 2019, which caused minor injuries to 14 people and serious burns to three members of the the Venezuelan Muñoz Lima family, they are Karina Lima and her children Miguel Ignacio Muñoz Lima, who was 5 years old and her 10-month-old baby, who died at the Children’s Hospital, two days after the tragedy.

The explosion caused damage to four floors of tower 7. After inspection by firefighters, the building was declared uninhabitable, since its structures and alarm systems were compromised.

Karina, who had 90% of her body burned, and Miguel Ignacio (68%) received medical treatment at Jennie Sealy Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Children, both in Galveston, Texas, where they recovered.
