In the midst of a press conference with the public force, the mayor of Pitalito, Huila, Yider Luna Young, unleashed an intense controversy with his statements about the way in which the authorities must act against crime in the municipality.
The local president, when presenting the security results, made a direct call to the police and the army to respond firmly against the criminal acts that have hit this region of the south of Huila.
“If a criminal has no mercy on the victims, if a criminal has no mercy on those who go out and go to a living, if a criminal has no mercy by dragging women when they take away a motorcycle, if a criminal has no mercy, squeezing a trigger against those who fight a day to day, I ask the authorities either, and if you have to tighten the trigger against the crime. affirmed.
In another of his sections, Luna was even more forceful: “Here we are not going to be tolerant, or in jail or in the cemetery, because they have not had mercy with the working class … we are not going to have mercy either,” he said.
Context of Violence in Pitalito
It should be remembered that at the beginning of September, among several cases of violence, a fact that generated outrage in the Valley of Laboyos, was the murder of a doctor in the middle of public roads when it was mobilized in a motorcycle. The crime caused outrage between the inhabitants and the authorities offered a reward of up to 50 million pesos for information that allows those responsible.
As part of the institutional response, security was reinforced with the arrival of the National Police Special Operations Group, Antiextorsion Units, Sijin Researchers and Special Forces Battalion. In addition, work tables were installed between the Prosecutor and Inpec to review cases of criminals that regain freedom due to expiration of terms.
The words of Mayor Luna have generated a broad debate in the municipality and in the department of Huila. For some sectors, his speech reflects citizen fatigue against crime; For others, it opens the discussion about the limits of the actions of public force and respect for human rights.
