Opret: metro will operate at its usual schedule in storm Melissa

The OOffice for the Reorganization of Transport (Opret) reported this Tuesday that, before the passage of Tropical Storm Melissa, the service of the Santo Domingo Metro will continue operating in its usual schedule.

In a release points out that in this way it is facilitated the mobility of citizens who need to move during this weather situation.

He added that the operation will be carried out under the established security and technical supervision protocols, in coordination with the corresponding official organizations.

He indicated that his Emergency Committee is located in permanent sessionexecuting preventive actions such as cleaning scuppers, placing bags at vulnerable stations and securing construction sites, with the aim of minimizing any impact and maintaining operational safety.

The Opret exhorted the population to stay informed through their official channels and from the bulletins of the Emergency Operations Center (COE) and the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet).

The institution called the population residing in the localities in red alert (Santo Domingo, National District, San Cristóbal, Peravia, San José de Ocoa, Azua, San Juan, Barahona and Pedernales) to remain sheltered starting at 1:00 in the afternoon on Wednesday, October 22, as recommended by emergency agencies, at that time a greater impact of the rains associated with the storm is expected. The call is to limit travel only to strictly necessary cases.
