SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.-The Cuban opposition and influencer Manuel Milanes, who He was shot on Thursday morning near the community of Ave Maria, an area belonging to Collier County, Florida. He thanked the people for their support during his hospital stay and spoke about the procedure he underwent.

Milanés thanked his familyfriends and the medical team that treated him. “They have taken very good care of me and well, they have maintained privacy, so, unfortunately, I cannot be seen much, because they maintain privacy, everything is still under investigation, ruling out any situation,” he said.
The businessman described the surgical process he underwent after being shot and said he had very little chance of survival: “The operation was 90-10, because I lost a lot of blood. They gave me almost 30 transfusions and they had to remove the bullet and put some extends in one vein and two arteries.”
He said he remembers everything and his memory is in good condition. He also asked for time to recover and rest.
He did not shed much light on the incident that led him to the hospital, but he said: “I think I did what I had to do, it was the decision I made. Even though I am going through all this, I would definitely do it again. As I know that any of you listening to me now would do as well.”
According to the first versions provided after the incident last Thursday, Milanés was shot by a man who was pointing his gun at a woman and a child. The Cuban was wounded when he placed himself between the attacker and the victims.
Emergency services immediately took him to a hospital in South Florida, where he underwent a successful first surgery.
Collier County authorities said the shooter, Hilberto Callejas, 26, was apprehended on 62nd Avenue NE in Golden Gate Estates after law enforcement located him.
The man faces charges including aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated battery, child abuse and others.
Milanés, who defines himself as an entrepreneur, was born in Cuba in the municipality of Cerro. He studied economics and obtained a degree in Economics from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Havana.
He emigrated to the Dominican Republic almost 20 years ago and, after 12 years there, he arrived in the United States.
