Opposition hardens tone against Jackson, while deputy Cariola clarifies that opinion is just a wake-up call

An increasingly harsh tone begins to mark the opposition’s speech regarding the Minister Secretary General of the Presidency, Giorgio Jackson, who is in the eye of the storm after knowing the Comptroller’s opinion that determined that the head of Segpres failed to principle of disregard that is required of the authorities. The questioning is accentuated to such a degree that leaders of opposition parties have already joined those who, as of this very Friday, ask for his immediate resignation from office.

“Regarding the Comptroller’s opinion, instead of justifying himself, Minister Jackson should step aside, thus avoiding a possible constitutional accusation in Congress and further damage to his government. This opinion exposes the interventionism unleashed with the resources of all Chileans,” the vice president of RN Catalina del Real told Emol.

Likewise, Del Real maintained that the Government has neglected its duties by dedicating itself to the campaign with a view to the plebiscite on September 4, especially those related to the search for solutions for phenomena such as “violence, unemployment, terrorism”, thus becoming “in the generalissimo of Approval, regardless of acting outside the law.”

The vice president of the UDI, Isabel Plà, stated that “the minister knows perfectly well that the call was only for those who represent one of the two options. I would suggest that, instead of trying to justify yourself, you accept your serious mistake and respect what the Comptroller’s Office ruled”, while calling on you to “act with humility, put aside interventionist actions and do the job for which you were chosen” .

Meanwhile, Luz Poblete, helmsman of Evopoli, maintained that “if he (Jackson) is not capable of realizing that he has to step aside, that this has already exceeded the limits in a historical process that is so relevant for our country, that requires all possible disregard and transparency, it is the President who has to make the decision”.

Deputy Cariola downplays the seriousness of the opinion

The deputy of the Communist Party (PC) and spokesperson for the Approval command, Karol Cariola, referred to the opinion issued by the Comptroller’s Office where it is stated that the Segpres minister, Giorgio Jackson, “did not comply with the necessary disregard.”

Cariola said that the ruling is a “wake-up call” for both the minister and the government. However, he believed that it was only a particular phrase and that Jackson’s act as Secretary of State has always been within the legal framework.

“The Comptroller’s Office has clearly said that it has not acted outside the legal, that there was a particular phrase that the minister is going to have to observe, that when he refers to this he always does it according to both sectors. There are many videos and interventions by the minister where he calls for both Approval and Rejection to incorporate the proposals and we are left with that,” he said at an activity for the Approval this Saturday in the commune of Independencia.

In addition, he added that “facing this, what is clear is that the minister has played a role in collecting the elements that arise from each space and in light of that, we believe that the Comptroller’s Office plays its role and calls for attention that the Government will have to consider”.

“Informing is not intervening. Minister Jackson called on all political forces, Approval and Rejection, to present proposals for what comes after September 5. That was actually a call made by the President of the Republic That is how we read it, beyond the particular phrase that the Comptroller questions, it is a phrase, they are not the total sayings of the minister,” he added.

Meanwhile, the socialist deputy Daniel Manouchehri also gave his support to Minister Jackson. “I have participated in many activities with Minister Giorgio Jackson and I have never seen him call for a vote for any of the alternatives of September 4. Minister Jackson has always acted with absolute disregard”, indicated the legislator of the Coquimbo Region.

“The signed agreement is an agreement of the political parties and parliamentarians. But even if the government wanted to participate in an agreement after the plebiscite, it is its legitimate right. It is absurd to deny the right to the minister in charge of political-legislative relations to participate in a political-legislative agreement of any kind”, stressed the PS parliamentarian.
