Although the National Police announced that there has been “a significant reduction in criminal acts between twelve midnight and five in the morning” in the province of Santo Domingo after implementing resolution 007-22, opposition legislators deny this decrease.
Among those who say that the delinquency has increased instead of decreasing in said demarcation after the implementation of the initiative of the Ministry of the Interior and Police, with the reduction in the hours of sales of alcoholic beverages, the deputies Edwin Mejía (PLD), president of the Permanent Commission of the Interior, stand out and Police of the Lower House, and Aquilino Serrata (FP).
Serrata denounced that the robberies in the country are being seen in full daylight.
“Here there is no safe social level, in this country, because they rob you at home, in the grocery store, in the square, walking, exercising and in the public vehicle. Here there is no safe social level, that is false, but purely false ”, she maintained.
Meanwhile, Edwin Mejía commented that the Dominican population cannot continue to be deceived, because robberies have increased.
“The robberies are not at night, most of the robberies are during the day. By restricting these commercial activities in the Dominican Republic, what we are causing in one way or another, is that the economy in the Dominican Republic is lacerated on a large scale, ”he said.
Both legislators agreed in pointing out that an example that citizen insecurity has increased was the robbery suffered by the four enumerators who worked in the Tenth Population and Housing Census 2022, when they were moving through the El Tamarindo sector, in the Santo Domingo municipality. East.
Other PLD deputies who expressed their doubts about the drop in criminal acts in Santo Domingo, as PN spokesman Diego Pesqueira announced yesterday, were Sócrates Pérez and Yenrry Acosta, the latter a member of the Permanent Commission on Interior and Police.
Sócrates Pérez said that if crime decreased, it was in the house of the officials.
Meanwhile, Yenrry Acosta argued that if crime has decreased with this measure, why does the Ministry of the Interior and Police not implement the resolution throughout the country.
They ask for Chu’s appearance in Congress
Resolution 007/22 issued by the Ministry of the Interior and Police caused the aforementioned legislators to request the resignation, dismissal and/or appearance of Jesús – Chu-Vásquez Martínez to the National Congress to explain this measure, after considering it absurd and that it has not contributed to decrease crime.
In this sense, Edwin Mejía, after expressing his confidence that President Luis Abinader will dismiss Chu Vásquez, stated that he is going to commit to having him go to the National Congress.
“He is the governing body for citizen security, and the policies implemented by the Ministry of the Interior and Police have been vain policies,” he said.
On the other hand, deputy Soraya Suárez (PRM), refuted the request of her counterparts, understanding that removing the official from the position would not change the situation.
“So, how many heads should we have asked for in 20 years, because the situation we are experiencing in this country is not new? I do not justify it, for the record, ”she indicated.
It is recalled that last week, the Dominican Union of Owners of Nightclubs of Santo Domingo Este stood in front of the National Congress, to request opposition legislators to invite the Minister of Interior and Police to the parliamentary body.
