The official closed the round of appearances before the Chamber of Deputies on the occasion of the first government report of President Claudia Sheinbaum, with the defense of achievements of the last six-year term and what is going on in this one.
He demanded that the opposition inform themselves but with the official figures, promote their state governments and adhere to the IMSS Bienestar; that they do not use “misfortunes” to profit from the population and that they vote in favor and not against social programs.
You, he claimed, “vote against the constitutional reform, you vote against the budget for the welfare programs. But when the elections come, you draw blood to say that you are going to continue, and then your leaders come out to say that it was a mistake to say that they were going to support you.”
The appearance lasted for four hours, and in it the events of Saturday came to light, the violence that occurred during the Generation Z demonstration, and the alleged repression against young people, but the disappearance of the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy (Coneval) and therefore the “makeup” of figures on poverty were also claimed.
Against the count of data on supports, scholarships, pensions, the opposition circulated banners in the seats with legends such as “Freedom for political prisoners”, “Lies of Welfare!”, “44 million Mexicans without access to health.”
In the war of banners, Morena, the Labor Party (PT) and Green Party (PVEM) showed their banners: “The 4T is Wellbeing”, “President, you are not alone.”
Representative Elizabeth Martínez Álvarez, of the National Action Party (PAN), claimed that structural poverty continues. “The evidence is overwhelming, the reduction in poverty recorded in recent years does not respond to social programs, but to the increase in labor income due to three factors: the increase in the minimum wage, the end of outsourcing and the guaranteed minimum pension.”
Deep inequalities persist that this government has not addressed. “It is not true that Mexico is one of the countries with the least inequality,” he said.
The sample, he said, is that 62.7 million people remain without social security, 44.5 million without access to health services, 24.2 million with educational backwardness and out-of-pocket spending on health increased 42% between 2018 and 2024.
Furthermore, the leader of the PAN bench, Elías Lixa, took the opportunity to, in reference to the marches of Generation Z, warn that young people “build their future with freedom” and defended their right to protest since “the will of young people cannot be bought.”
