Opposition Cristian Trujillo, victim of the 2018 repression, dies bedridden

The young man Christian Trujillo26, originally from Matagalpa, died this Monday morning, July 18, after battling for more than four years for his life, after receiving a bullet in his hip during the 2018 social protests against the regime by Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo.

In interview with Article 66, the human rights defense attorney Yonarqui Martínez, who brought the complaint about the attack, recalled the entire situation that the opponent went through, as well as the lack of timely medical care in public hospitals.

«Cristian —Trujillo— actively participated in the protests; however, he was injured by bullet impact. On that occasion he pretended to be dead so that the people —who made attempts on his life— would not finish him off, but thank God good-hearted people found him, gave him assistance, he was able to be treated in Managua, in a hospital that He had arranged to attend opponents who were denied care in public hospitals, “explained Martínez.

He emphasized that the bullet he received intensified an illness that he did not know he had at the time. He stressed that on several occasions he was mistreated by the authorities of the Ministry of Health. «He was not treated in a timely manner; He spent almost 18 months without hospital care, which caused his illness to progress ».

The lawyer stressed that the history of Trujillo has been repeated with many opponents who have been victims of aggression by paramilitaries or by the Ortega Police, who have been denied medical attention.

“Many citizens had injuries during the social protests of 2018, but because they were opponents they were not treated in a timely manner and the diseases progress and the consequence is death,” he said.

He died without seeing justice

Another of the situations that Yonarqui Martínez referred to was that the victim of the regime managed to meet his aggressors, “I filed his complaint, I took his testimony at the Vivian Pellas hospital. Last year she asked me to give her testimony at the time so that justice could be done».

“When there is a real change, I will make use of that request and I will deliver the testimony to the corresponding authorities so that the people he recognizes as his aggressors and who are from the city of Matagalpa can be investigated,” he added.

The human rights defender lamented that Trujillo spent four years fighting for his life, bedridden, without seeing true justice. “His mother and other relatives of his were always aware of him.”

According to Yonarqui Martínez, the candle will be held tonight at the home of relatives of Cristian Trujillo (without specifying address) and tomorrow, Tuesday, July 19, a body mass will be held in a Catholic church in Matagalpa. Trujillo is one of the more than 300 victims of the Nicaraguan dictatorship who died without receiving justice.
