The president of the Superior Council of Private Enterprise (Cosep), César Zamora, reported on June 21 that the union chambers maintain “communication channels” with the Daniel Ortega regime, news that caused negative reactions from opponents who They say it is a recipe for «amnesia» that «tramples» the memory of the murdered.
«César Zamora prescribes amnesia for Nicaraguans. He has the right to make money, but not to trample on the memory of those murdered,” said journalist and lawyer member of the Unión Democrática Renovadora (Unamos), Héctor Mairena, who in turn demanded that there be “justice in Nicaragua, so that there is peace. No repetition so that there will never again be any new dictatorship or Ortega regimes of any kind.

Zamora revealed in an interview with Channel 12 that “Cosep has not yet sat down (with the regime) but we are going to see what the COSEP Council decides on that issue, but there are already established communication channels between the chambers and the Government to go resolving the issues that affect the work of each of the chamber companies”, a situation that was interpreted by opponents as a future dialogue between the two.
On the other hand, the leader of Unamos and former Sandinista guerrilla Luis Carrión pointed out that «César Zamora on his knees asks Ortega for dialogue and forgiveness to “be part of the solution” but does not demand the release of his prisoners, not even that their conditions improve» . The prisoners he refers to are Michael Healy, Álvaro Vargas and José Adán Aguerri, who are being held in “El Nuevo Chipote” on orders from Ortega. The first two held the presidency and vice-presidency of Cosep, respectively, before being imprisoned.
The president of the union is known for being one of the partners and defenders of private company business with the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. As a result of the rupture of the businessmen’s alliance with Daniel Ortega, the new leader has kept a low profile, nor has he expressed his discontent with the situation in the country within the framework of the repression and persecution imposed by the regime.

At the end of January 2022, the bosses, led by César Zamora, affirmed that dialogue with the Daniel Ortega regime is the only way for the more than 190 political prisoners in Nicaragua to be released.
Cosep assures that it welcomes the statement issued on January 25 by the relatives of political prisoners, with which they demanded solutions from the Ortega government to achieve the release of the hostages of conscience.
