The Blue and White National Unit (Unab) sent an open letter to the 49th president of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves, in which they expose the “very serious health, physical and emotional situation of political prisoners”, mainly the state of the inmates over 60 years of age who they consider “should be in their homes.”
“We refer to President Chaves that there are currently more than 180 citizens who are in jail in our country today for asking for free elections, justice and respect for human rights in the country. More than 355 people were assassinated by the Ortega Murillo regime and its paramilitary forces and international organizations concluded that crimes against humanity were committed in Nicaragua,” the opposition organization said through the document.

To date, the Ortega justice system holds more than 180 people captive for political reasons, 35 of them are in the Directorate of Judicial Assistance in Managua. Their families have reported that many have medical complications. Their health condition is aggravated by the confinement conditions and the poor diet of which they are victims.
