The remodeling of the sports center involved the enclosure and heating of the swimming pool, as well as improvements in the accessibility and conditioning of the bathrooms, changing rooms and showers. The works required some 5,000,000 pesos, provided by the Interior Development Fund and the Municipal Management Incentive Fund, both managed by the OPP. Military personnel collaborated in the work.
The inauguration of the works, carried out this Monday the 16th, was attended by the Defense Minister, Javier García; the coordinator of Decentralization and Cohesion of the Office of Planning and Budget (OPP), María de Lima; the National Secretary for Sport, Sebastián Bauzá; the mayor of Lavalleja, Mario García; the mayoress of Solís de Mataojo, Verónica Machado, and the mayor of Maldonado, Enrique Antía.
García highlighted the contribution of the members of the Armed Forces who offered hours of work for the execution of the work and stressed that these places where sports and recreation are carried out achieve the inclusion of citizens.
De Lima, meanwhile, reported that the remodeling consisted of the enclosure and air conditioning of the Olympic pool, as well as improvements in accessibility and conditioning of bathrooms, changing rooms and showers. Likewise, he announced that work is being done throughout the department of Lavalleja, with transfers of 110,000,000 pesos, from the Interior Development Fund, and 31,000,000, from the Municipal Management Incentive Fund.
In his turn, Bauzá maintained that it is essential that there be closed swimming pools, because they allow citizens of all ages to practice swimming throughout the year. He also appreciated that it has incorporated access for people with disabilities.
