The Directory of Antel approved by majority to increase transfers to General Revenue for 2022 at $38 million at the request of the Office of Planning and Budget (OPP).
The transfers were initially expected to be for $3.325 million (US$83 million).. With the new defined contribution, the transfers will amount to $4,860 million (about US$121 million), according to the resolution of the Board of Directors dated June 9.
The representative of the Broad Front in the Antel Board of Directors, Daniel Larrosa wrote on his Twitter account that with those US$ 38 million “the fixed internet rate could have been lowered by 9%”. “Privatization is not to lower rates,” he added.
This in reference to the resolution of the Executive Branch that last week granted licenses to private cable TV companies so that they can market the internet to homes and businesses.
Larrosa considers that the initiative “It harms Antel and breaks a state policy that made it possible for Uruguay to be recognized worldwide for its fiber optic connectivity.”
PRIVATIZATION IS NOT TO LOWER RATES. The Board of Directors increased the contributions to General Revenue for the year 2022: from $3,325 million budgeted, they went to $4,860 million.
