The ruling regarding urban terrorism, which seeks to confront the crimes of extortion and hitmen, will be ready in approximately 15 days, as estimated today by the president of the Congressional Justice Commission, Isaac Mita Alanoca. “Let’s wait at least 15 days, it is an approximate, it is a serious issue that requires prudent attention”he declared in dialogue with the press.

Mita Alanoca explained that next week there will be long holidays, which will prevent the commission from meeting to continue preparing the opinion. In addition, he emphasized the complexity of the issue, pointing out that it involves delicate aspects such as people’s lives, social freedoms and the need to guarantee the security of Peruvian citizens.
The president of the commission also referred to the term “urban terrorism”, used by the Executive to classify these crimes in the Penal Code. According to Mita Alanoca, this name would not be the most appropriate, so it will be evaluated whether it is convenient to maintain or modify it.
“As has been seen in the opinions of specialists, this situation must be corrected and classified according to the Penal Code. We need reasonable time to analyze it with great discretion”he reiterated.
Regarding the Executive’s proposal to punish the seizure of roads and the interruption of traffic with 10 to 15 years in prison, Mita Alanoca recalled that these acts involve rights recognized by the Constitution.
“We must differentiate, here we cannot take advantage of it to overreach in actions as has been happening. That is why prudence is important, so that partial or group interests do not prevail, but rather the interests of the country and maintaining citizen security.”he stated.
Finally, the president of the Justice Commission pointed out that, given that the opinion on urban terrorism is in an intermediate room in the plenary session, the Executive’s proposal will be evaluated, which arrived out of time on the day the issue was debated in Congress. The analysis of the opinion will be done in a multi-party manner, including contributions from both citizens and specialists, concluded Mita Alanoca.
