The city of Rio de Janeiro starts today (17) Operation Summer 2022/2023, whose objective is to reinforce preventive patrols, the inspection of municipal postures and urban and traffic planning actions, especially on the beaches. The initiative involves the Municipal Department of Public Order (Seop) and the Municipal Guard.
In addition to the waterfront in the south and west zones, the operation also covers Parque Madureira, Parque Radical de Deodoro, Ilha do Governador and Ilha de Paquetá. In all, 440 agents will be involved, of which 89 will act exclusively in traffic monitoring, with special attention on weekends and holidays, when the movement on the beaches is greater.
Guards will be deployed to patrol strategic locations on the waterfront, access roads, bus stops and BRT terminals, to prevent depredations to buses. The teams will have 67 vehicles.
According to a note released by the city hall, the Summer Operation was created to offer bathers, residents and tourists a safe and orderly environment so that they can enjoy the wonders of the city. The municipality adds that the work also has the support of teams from the Video Patrol Center of the Municipal Guard, which monitor 80 cameras redirected to reproduce images of the boardwalk and the strip of sand.
“The flagrant crimes are sent by cell phone for the guards to identify and approach the suspects. The video material is given to the Civil Police, to help in the recording of occurrences in the police stations”, adds the text. There will also be supervision on the sand strip to curb loud music and other types of disorders that cause inconvenience to beachgoers.
