Operation Squid: They set a date for the coercion measure

According to the information obtained by this means, the request for a measure against 20 public officials of the government of former President Danilo Medina, headed by former ministers José Ramon Peralta, Gonzalo Castillo and Donald Guerrero, will be in the role of hearings of the Office of Services of Permanent Attention of the National District, which start regularly from 4:00 in the afternoon.

Magistrate Kenya Scarlet Romero, coordinator of the Investigating Courts of the National District, will hear the request for coercive measures.

Due to the alleged framework of corruption called Operation Squid, which implies the subtraction of more than RD$19,000 million, are also detained the former comptroller, Daniel Omar Caamaño; the former director of the State Sugar Council (CEA), Luis Miguel Piccirilo; former director of the National Cadastre, Claudio Silver Peña, and former directors of Casinos and Gambling, Oscar Chalas Guerrero and Julián Omar Fernández.

Judge Romero set the hearing after being seized this Monday night of the request filed by the Public Ministry in the case of the former ministers, the lawyer Ángel Lockward and 16 other co-defendants in the aforementioned process.

The coercive measure hearing is the scenario where the judge verifies the relevance or otherwise of the imposition of one of the measures set forth in the Criminal Procedure Code, whose purpose is that the person or persons under investigation appear at the hearings and acts of the process and guarantee the development of the investigation in accordance with due process.
