The Federal Highway Police (PRF) registered a total of 1,043 offenses for driving under the influence of alcohol during Operation Natal 2021. The operation was carried out between the 23rd and 26th of December on federal highways throughout Brazil, with the carrying out of 30,144 blood alcohol tests, the breathalyzer. During the operation, 100 drivers were arrested for the crime of drunk driving.
Of the 32,848 fines, 4,822 were for overtaking in a continuous lane. In addition, 3,779 drivers and passengers were found without seatbelts. Motorcyclists traveling without wearing a helmet were fined 591 between drivers and passengers. According to the PRF, however, there was a reduction in the number of accidents and serious accidents compared to 2020.
“In 2021, 732 accidents were registered, while in 2020 there were 791, a reduction of 7%. As for serious accidents, which involve at least one seriously injured or dead, in 2021 225 were registered, while in 2020 there were 234, that is, there was a reduction of 4%”, informed the corporation, in a statement.
Already the number of dead has increased. In 2021, 83 deaths were registered, 13 more than in 2020. As for the number of injuries, in 2021 there were 1,079, while in 2020 there were 1,043, an increase of 3%.

Operation Natal 2021 also registered drug seizures, with numbers considered significant by the PRF. 10,623 kilos of marijuana were seized, an increase of 3,237% compared to last year’s holiday, and 573 kilos of cocaine, an exponential increase of 18.705%.
