He Public Ministry points to Hugo Berasformer executive director of the National Institute of Traffic and Land Transportation (Intrant), as the co-author and main facilitator of an alleged corruption in the management of the traffic light network and the city’s video surveillance system.
According to the authorities, the former official has “clear participation in the orchestration of the fraud” in the tender won by the company Transcore Latam SRL, intended for the modernization of the traffic control system and the traffic light network in the country.
“As the main executive authority of the Intrant between August 2022 and November 2023, Beras directed and authorized the fraudulent award of millionaire contracts to companies without the required technical capabilities,” assures the Public Ministry, as stated in Arrest Order 2024-AJ0020784, issued by Fátima Scarlette Veloz Suárez, chief judge of the Tenth Investigative Court of the National District.
The document indicates that Beras was also key in the integration of new authorities to the manipulated project and that he “facilitated the participation of portfolio companies who diverted State resources.”
The former director of Intrant was arrested last night, after a trespass to his residence that lasted more than two hours.
Hours before, the businessman José Ángel Gómez Canaánalias Jochi, was detained at the Special Prosecutor’s Office against Administrative Corruption (Pepca), after being interrogated for more than four hours.
The arrests took place within the framework of a investigation for the contract signed during Beras’ management with Gómez’s company, Transcore Latamfor the modernization, expansion, supervision and management of the comprehensive system of the Traffic Control Center and the Traffic Light Network of Greater Santo Domingo.
He prosecutor Héctor García led the trespass in the Beras house, located in the Juan Antonio XVI tower, in Piantini, National District.
