Eight people who allegedly belong to a criminal organization dedicated to the international transfer of illicit substances were captured through the binational operation called “Polux” carried out in the provinces of Panama, West Panama and Veraguas, by authorities from Panama and Colombia.
The Attorney General of the Nation, Javier Caraballo, highlighted that the 8 detainees were presented before a guarantee judge who legalized the arrest, and charges were brought against seven people, achieving their preventive detention and granting a different precautionary measure to another of them. .
Caraballo explained that these investigations began in August 2019 and that a former member of the National Aeronaval Service (SENAN) was linked to this criminal organization.
He stressed that in Colombia 12 people were captured and various assets seized, which are being processed through the Domain Extinction Law.
“This criminal group in Colombia obeyed a dissident group of the FARC, specifically the 30th front, a very powerful group in Colombia, which was somehow strengthening its tentacles in Panama, however, with this operation we have managed to demobilize this group. criminal, not only in Panama, but also in Colombia in coordination with authorities of that country”, he specified.
According to the general director of SENAN, Jeremías Urieta, there were nine raids carried out, in which cash, ammunition and technological equipment were seized.
Regarding the amount of assets seized, he highlighted that they are more than 30 billion Colombian pesos, which represents more than 7 million 500 thousand dollars, including homes, vehicles, commercial premises, luxury watches and others.
They highlighted that the former member of SENAN provided logistical collaboration and coordination between Colombians who came to Panama specifically on the Panamanian coast.
