Starting on August 5, registrations will be open for the second stage of Phase 5 of the Oportunidad Laboral program, popularly known as Jornales Solidarios. This program has been designed with the purpose of offering temporary employment opportunities to unemployed people between the ages of 18 and 65 who meet a series of specific requirements.

Participation requirements for Solidarity Days

To be eligible to apply, applicants must meet the following criteria: be between 18 and 65 years old; not be receiving any form of salary benefit, whether public or private; not be receiving unemployment benefits, sickness benefits, retirement benefits, pension benefits, or any other personal compensation.

Registration process:

Registrations can be made from Monday, August 5 at 8:00 a.m. to Friday, August 9 at 8:00 p.m., exclusively using a form available at the program’s website.

The platform will provide a direct link to facilitate the registration process and ensure that applications are handled efficiently and transparently.

The program also contemplates, in accordance with current legislation, the inclusion of vulnerable groups such as people of African descent, people with disabilities and trans people. These actions reflect the program’s commitment to equity and social inclusion in the workplace.

Remuneration, schedules and selection of participants:

Those selected through this program will carry out tasks from September 1 to December 31, and will receive a nominal remuneration of 13,000 Uruguayan pesos per month. The work day will be distributed over 12 work days per month, with a daily regime of eight hours.

The selection process will be carried out through draws held by each departmental government, which will take place between August 23 and 28. The exact dates and the communication of the results will be managed by each departmental administration.

Phases of the selection process

From August 5th to 9th: Registration using the web form.

  • From August 23rd to 28th: Drawing of candidates by departmental administrations.
  • From September to December 2024: Execution of tasks assigned to beneficiaries in their respective departments.

One of the highlights of the program is that during the period in which the beneficiaries participate, this time will be considered by the Social Security Bank (BPS) as valid activity for retirement and pension purposes, under the “Industry and Commerce” affiliation.

It will also allow access to maternity, common illness and work accident benefits. In addition, beneficiaries will be entitled to free medical care through the services of the State Health Services Administration (ASSE) throughout the country.

A national registry of applicants will be created with the information collected in the registration form (age, gender, place of residence and educational level) to guide future training and job retraining actions, seeking to improve long-term employment opportunities.

Work compatibility and termination of participation

Beginning in the third month of participation in the program, beneficiaries will be allowed to perform complementary work activities in the private sector, with a limit of up to eight monthly days, thus allowing greater flexibility and income-generating capacity.

Participation in the program may end for several reasons: expiration of the deadline, failure to complete assigned tasks, or by voluntary decision of the beneficiary, without the need to state any reason.
