Open Letter: Argentines condemn political persecution against Venezuela

Carta Abierta: Argentinos repudian persecución política contra Venezuela

More than 200 Argentine organizations and personalities published an open letter to the international community on Wednesday, whose signatories express their repudiation of the use of the judicial power of this country for the purposes of political persecution against the highest authorities of Venezuela.

“Those of us who signed this letter wish to alert the international community about this attack on the highest offices of the Bolivarian Government and request its support to thwart this new act of international interference,” reads part of the letter.

In this regard, the letter indicates that several judges who make up Chamber I of the Federal Criminal and Correctional Court of Argentina, “unconstitutionally appointed to said body by former President Mauricio Macri, without competition and without the agreement of the Senate of the Nation,” revoked the ruling of the first instance judge, Sebastián Ramos, and ordered him to immediately execute the arrest warrants for Nicolás Maduro Moros and Diosdado Cabello, for the purposes of “extradition to the Argentine Republic.”

They also warn that the letter is biased and decontextualized, omitting the systematic use of violence by the coup opposition. According to the text of the letter, the bias is manifest and it selectively cites only the reports that are part of the plan to overthrow the country.

Rejection of Milei and his support for interventionist policies

They also point out that the “illegal and excessive decision” is in addition to the interventionist, destabilizing and interventionist policies led by the United States. These policies are supported by other States, transnational companies, social networks, monopolistic media corporations, as well as dependent and related political sectors, which have even attempted to militarily invade Venezuela.

They also mention that this attack is related to Javier Milei’s unconditional alignment with the most aberrant powers of humanity. This is in reference to the evident support for the genocide in Gaza.

They also cite judicial warfare or “lawfare” as one of the effective vehicles when trying to neutralize processes, leaderships and governments of a popular nature. In this sense, “the judicial apparatus of our country is once again being used for this purpose, but this time with the seriousness of being an extraterritorial operation that infringes the sovereignty of a sister nation and violates fundamental principles of international law.”

In addition, the signatory organizations and individuals warn that the admission of this legal aberration into the international system could mean the use of Interpol by a State. This, without a legitimate interest and due competence, seeks to limit the freedom of a political leader of another sovereign nation through its judicial power, as a means of persecution and attack, which would lead to the destruction of the order of peaceful coexistence and respect for sovereignty between nations, which is already so altered in current times.

Milei’s cruelty against her own people

Part of the letter also highlights that it is the same judiciary that is responsible for the repression of peaceful demonstrations and other citizen protests. According to them, they were ordered by Waldo Wolf (Security Minister of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires) who, in turn, is the promoter of this crude legal action against Venezuela. The same, initiated by a foundation of American origin (Clooney Foundation for Justice), with financing from transnational companies and foundations of the same origin.

Likewise, the signatories state that the current violations of all human rights of the Argentine population by Javier Milei are made possible by a discredited, permissive judicial power that conceals the social injustice experienced by Argentine men and women.

“This attack not only attacks a sovereign country, but also the Argentine people themselves by distorting and manipulating our heritage of Memory, Truth and Justice against the architects and leaders of the terrorist state of the last military dictatorship who represented the same interests that are attacking Venezuela today.”
