The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) announces to folklorists or folklore specialists that until June 23, 2023 at 2:00 p.m., the call for the Dora Pérez de Zárate Award and the Manuel F. Zarate.
The call is open to Panamanian citizens, natural or legal persons, public or private organizations that wish to present their candidate (a) may also do so at the regional offices of the Ministry of Culture in the provinces and regions, to facilitate the participation of candidates for national level, sending the documentation in a closed and plastic-covered envelope (for the corresponding disinfection, as indicated by the biosafety protocols) registrations can be made under Virtual or face-to-face modalities.
The Dora Pérez Zárate Award seeks to recognize the work and legacy of folklorists or folklore specialists, as well as folkloric entities; practitioners of cultural expressions, who have contributed to the study of Panamanian folklore and its expressions, through professional achievements of merit that help to give continuity to the “Zaratistas” vision, strengthening the development of nationalist thought and sentiment through popular culture.
The Manuel F. Zárate Award is a recognition for people who stand out in the search, rescue, knowledge and conservation of Panamanian folklore, taking into consideration those who value, share and respect the various expressions of conduct, habits, dances , dances, works and popular songs, among other manifestations of popular culture.
Both distinctions are delivered within the framework of the National Festival of La Mejorana, in the district of Guararé, province of Los Santos.
With this call, MiCultura reaffirms its commitment to its cultural management mandate in the country, in the appreciation of expressions of Panamanian cultural diversity and its affirmative actions, aimed at safeguarding both tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
