ONPE begins sanctioning proceedings against Fuerza Popular for Keiko Fujimori's trip

The head of the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), Piero Corvetto, reported that the entity has initiated a sanctioning process against Popular Force for the journey of its leader Keiko Fujimori to the United States with public funds.

As previously reported, Keiko Fujimori financed her trip from May 28 to 31, 2024 for a total amount of S/27,921.53 from the resources allocated as part of direct public financing in favor of that group.

According to the electoral body, Fujimori’s trip with former congressman Juan del Águila and advisor Marko Pacheco did not meet the required conditions to be considered a training activity.

In a statement to RPP, Corvetto did not want to go into details about the process that has been opened to the orange group, claiming that he represents the body that will be in charge of the sanction. “I can’t comment,” he said.

However, he did specify that, according to the Law of Political Organizations, the resources for direct public financing that the State grants to the political groups that have representation in Parliament “must be used exclusively linked to aspects of training and operation”.

“If it is not supported in that way it is not properly used,” he stressed.
