Only two women were elected to capital city halls

The elected mayors Emília Corrêa (Aracaju-SE), from PL, and Adriane Lopes (Campo Grande-MS), from the PP, are the only women who will head municipal administrations among all Brazilian capitals from 2025 onwards. They won the second round elections, this Sunday (27). Only two women were elected to capital city halls

Another six candidates reached the dispute in the second round in capitals: Rose Modesto (in Campo Grande), from União, Natália Bonavides (in Natal), from PT, Janad Valcari (in Palmas), from PL, Maria do Rosário (in Porto Alegre ), from PT, Cristina Graeml (in Curitiba), from PMB, and Mariana Carvalho (in Porto Velho), from União. The number represents a drop compared to 2020, when the candidates in the second round were 20.

Increase

In the first round, among all municipalities, 724 women were elected, which represents 13% of the cities that resolved the dispute on October 6th. In 2020, 663 cities elected women (12%).
