Only two brands of rice met the quality parameters established by the Authority for Consumer Protection and Defense of Competition (Acodeco), through its Metrology Department.
This was revealed by the entity detailing that it verified 56 brands of national milled rice, of which 54 did not meet the parameters.
According to these results, the 54 brands of rice that did not comply with the quality analysis are 32 special and 22 premium. The only 2 brands that met are premium rice.
And it is that the technical regulation RT DGNTI-COPANIT 75-2002, establishes the regulations by which the rice must be analyzed, details that the special rice must contain at least 94.5% of whole grains, 5% of broken grains and 0.5% of small rice The first class rice, 70% whole grains, 25% broken grains and 5% rice. The second, 55% whole grains, 30% broken and 15% rice.
The Acodeco explained that to establish the quality of the grain, the amount of red, yellow, chalky grains, objectionable seeds and grains damaged by fungi, heat, insects, rodents, humidity or any damage that alters the normal appearance was verified.
Likewise, it was checked that the length of the grain announced by the supplier, on the label, was the one indicated. The packages of milled rice must have clearly printed, among other information, the expiration date, the weight, the type of quality and the quantity of whole and broken grains that it must contain. The presence of foreign elements, such as insects, stones and others, should not be noticed.
To carry out these quality tests, Acodeco collected samples of different brands of milled rice at the national level, which were analyzed in the Metrology Laboratory, with the presence of a representative of each brand.
