Only one Bajo Llojeta property –the area that suffered a mazamorra landslide on November 23–has the corresponding cadastral record in the municipal administration of La PazThe La Paz Mayor’s Office reported this Monday.
“There is only one property that has a cadastral record in the Autonomous Municipal Government of La Paz that isand awarded on January 25 of last year in charge of Real Rights, which was the result of a usucapion trial,” said Diego Chávez, municipal secretary of Planning.
Saturday’s tragedy affected about 40 homes and even a five-year-old girl lost her life buried in the mud.
In fact, the Mayor’s Office and affected neighbors blamed the company that owns the Los Andes Cemetery for allegedly carrying out illegal earth movements with authorization from the neighboring municipality of Achocalla.
“The oldest records we have at this time are from the year 2020, when the Risk Management has intervened and warned them not to make any moves, “But not only did they move earth, but they also filled in, bringing material from other places,” said the mayor of La Paz, Iván Arias, according to a note published by the municipal information agency.
Meeting of municipalities
Arias met with the governor of La Paz, Santos Quispe, after what happened in Bajo Llojeta and requested that he call a meeting with the mayors of Achocalla and Mecapaca.
“We have to agree on a common regulation and apply (all) those regulations,” Arias said.
Arias indicated that, in the current situation, some construction companies take advantage of the existing regulatory differences between municipalities.
“Our regulations greatly respect these risk issues, while others do not. This has led builders to go to Achocalla and obtain (authorizations),” he said.
