online classes "they vanished"but they left affectations to the teachers

“Then, in January 2022, we received a discount and they told us that, due to the organization of the school and the low enrollment, the bonus was going to be withdrawn and everything that they had paid us from August to December was going to be paid to us. to discount. So, in our first fortnight of that year, they practically gave us nothing,” he lamented.

Working in a private school is not a guarantee of employment rights. Math teacher Ismael Escobar, 49, taught at a private high school in Oaxaca for 12 years.

In 2020, when classes were held online and it was difficult for students to learn, their health was complicated. He suffers from high blood pressure and it got out of control.

“In itself, the experience in private institutions is quite demanding as far as teaching is concerned. Already in virtual classes, it was a very strong challenge, where, even, the boys were not used to this pace of work nor were we as teachers. They delivered the activities very late, at dawn the boys were sending activities, tasks, evidence. It was endless, it was a sea of information”, recalls the professor.

The pandemic interrupted educational processes at all levels.

To this were added the demands of the parents, the school board and the fear that he or someone in his family would catch covid.

“Maybe it was a moment where we all learned, but it was too stressful. For me it was an experience not at all comfortable. Dads, on the other hand, also have tremendous demands. They wanted immediate results and didn’t realize that learning is a slow, progressive process and that results don’t happen overnight,” she explained.

Stress and health problems forced him to resign.

“The fact of health, that affects my spirit. It is possible that, if the pandemic had not happened, I would continue teaching. Perhaps I would be in another position, without abandoning that vocation that truly gives me great satisfaction, because teaching is an art and a way of life. It is a learning and an ongoing process,” he stated.
