School absence and economic losses

In the midst of the internal dispute between factions of the Sinaloa Cartel, violence in the entity has also wreaked havoc on education and the economy.

Due to the violence, parents have chosen not to take their children to in-person classes. Thus, just last Tuesday, the Ministry of Public Education and Culture of Sinaloa reported that the number of basic level schools in the central area of the state, where students receive in-person classes, had a slight increase compared to the previous week. going from 559 open school sites to 638.

The economy and local commerce are other social sectors that have been affected by this wave of violence.

According to Laura Guzmán Torróntegui, vice president of the northern zone of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac), in an interview by Radio Formulareported this Tuesday that from September 9 to date, there have been economic losses of around 150 million pesos in said union.

While Óscar Sánchez Beltrán, president of the Union of Culiacán Merchants (UCC), estimates that the economic losses in this sector amount to more than 12,000 million pesos in Culiacán, Mazatlán, Elota and Navolato.

Given this situation, this Monday, October 14, Governor Rocha Moya, recognized that last Friday, October 11, was a complicated day in this area, which is why operations are already being strengthened with the presence of elements of the GN who will be distributed , not only in the central sector of Culiacán, but in different parts of the state capital and, on foot, they will carry out proximity tours with the citizens, they will even wear a different uniform.

The governor also announced that support is being sought for business owners who have been affected by the situation, which is why, through his government, an extension has been requested for the payment of obligations such as Social Security, and others.
