The victim had been in the National Army for more than 13 years.
One soldier died and three others were injured in a military operation against an armed group in a rural area of the department of Arauca (border with Venezuela), the Army reported this Thursday in a statement.

“In the afternoon today, in the development of military operations in favor of the protection of the civilian population, soldiers from the Land Operations Battalion No. 29, a unit operationally attached to the Eighteenth Brigade, s“They are engaged in combat against members of an organized armed group, in the general area of the La Esmeralda village, of Puerto Rondón, in Arauca,” detailed the military institution.
The dead soldier Keyler Alonso Ruiz Hernández, was a native of the municipality of Curumaní -in the department of Cesar- and had been in the Army for more than 13 years.
In Arauca, one of the most turbulent departments in the country, the dissidents of the FARC and the National Liberation Army (ELN) are present, among other illegal organized groups.

on Wednesday Another soldier was killed in an attack by FARC dissidents in the Colombian department of Guaviare, in the center-southern of the country, while on Tuesday the Army denounced the murder of a 15-year-old teenager in the troubled department of Cauca (southwest) for also refusing to be recruited by a group of FARC dissidents.
