One seriously injured by explosion in the Saratoga dies, there are 46 fatalities

MIAMI, United States.- The tragedy that occurred last Friday, May 6 at the Hotel Saratoga in Havana has claimed a new fatality, and with it the number of people who died as a result of the explosion rises to 46.

According to most recent party of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), the latest victim was a man who was hospitalized at the Calixto García Hospital, in critical condition.

So far in the explosion, which occurred according to the authorities due to a transfer of liquefied gas, 99 people were injured, of which 13 are still hospitalized and 40 patients have been discharged.

This Thursday the team that had been in what was left of the Hotel since Friday found the body of the last person who was missing, presumably a worker from the hotel facility who had not been found.

This was announced on Facebook by the state site Cubadebate: “They find the body of the last disappeared person. On the afternoon of this May 12, the body of the last person missing as a result of the accident at the Hotel Saratoga was found, apparently the waitress of the tourist facility itself. There are 45 deaths as a result of the accident. The rescue and rescue work has been carried out without ceasing since May 6, the day of the tragic event.

Causes and victims

The explosion, which according to Alexis Acosta Silva, mayor of Old Havana, took place when a liquefied gas bullet was being fitted in the hotel, caused the entire facade of the building, located in front of the Havana Capitol, one of the areas busiest in the capital, will blow up.

The fatalities were Hotel workers, who were inside the building at the time, and people who were passing by. Most of the dead were Cubans, except for one spanish tourist who was on vacation on the island. Among the deceased are also four children and a pregnant woman.

The Cuban government decreed this Thursday official duel for the tragedy.
