Vanessa Sierra Suris, injured in the explosion at the Saratoga hotel on May 6 in Havana, died in the last few hours. According to the latest report of Cuban Ministry of Health, made public this Wednesday, the 44-year-old woman was in serious condition. With her death, the number of fatalities of the accident.
In an interview given to CyberCuba last May 7, the son of the deceased, Frank González, said that his mother “walked out of the hotel, which is good news.” According to her testimony, they first took her to the Hermanos Ameijeiras Surgical Clinical Hospital and then sent her to the Institute of Neurosurgery.
González then said that the woman was “stable and strong” and that she was expected to be discharged that same day.
Some of the buildings damaged by the incident remain without further repair
Sierra Suris was the hotel’s head housekeeper and, according to her son, she suffered some blows to the head. Within the first few hours, she was reported missing.
The explosion of the Saratoga, one of the most emblematic hotels in the capital, shocked the entire country, and, more than a month latercontinues to be wrapped in the controversy. The results of the police investigation into the causes of the incident have not yet been made public, and one wounded person, described as “careful”, is still hospitalized at the Hermanos Ameijeiras Surgical Clinic.
Some of the buildings damaged by the incident continue without receiving major repairs, as is the case of the residential buildings that exist in the block, and which were completely affected.
