The Congress of the Republic, complying with a court order, had reconstructed the list of 10 finalist candidates for the election of the Comptroller General of the Republic, among which it included five men and five women, according to the criteria of gender equality.
The members of the accidental commission of Senate and Chamber decided to recompose the list with the men and women that had the best score in the tests carried out by the Industrial University of Santander, the one in charge of advancing this process.
However, in the last few hours the lawyer Karol González, who had the lowest score of the 10 applicants, decided to step aside and renounce his aspiration for the Comptroller’s Office.

González is the wife of Luis Ernesto Gómez, former Secretary of the Government of Bogotá, who was in Gustavo Petro’s campaign leading some issues related to his candidacy in the country’s capital. However, in the letter with which he resigns affirms that his aspiration to the Comptroller’s Office was always completely independent of her husband’s political activity.
“For this reason and consistent with my vision and conviction about the need for independent fiscal surveillance and control, I have made the decision to step aside from the selection process. There is no legal impediment conflict of interest or inability or incompatibility for my participation in the process, but I believe that the change that the country chose at the polls should be reflected not only in the executive branch of public power but in all instances of the State,” he said in his letter. of resignation.
It also acknowledges that did not have the best grades in the tests that were done throughout this process, especially on issues related to the experience required to assume the position.

“I am also aware that my score is not the highest in experience and academic publications, so I will dedicate these 4 years to continue accumulating academic and professional experience”, he added.
His letter of resignation ends with a call to the next Comptroller General of the Republic to give preponderant weight to prior environmental assessment to make progress on green public procurement.
