A one-month-old baby died this Monday, with apparent symptoms of dengue, at the Children’s Hospital. According to the testimony of his father, the child was admitted to that hospital at 11:00 this Monday.
He also said that the little it was bad over the weekendand that on Saturday his parents took him to the Virgen Milagrosa health center, where he was given paracetamol to treat the fever that he presented and sent him home.
This Monday, the family went to the Children’s Hospital and the father asked that they attend to his baby; but they told him that he must wait. The man stated that the little boy did not receive timely care at the Children’s Hospital, which had to wait a long time. After he entered the ER, they told him that the creature had died.
The father asks that babies be given priority attention.
Jorge Mehdi, deputy director of the Children’s Hospital, indicated that on Tuesday they will give a report about this case. However, he referred to the conditions in which the work of health personnel is carried out in that hospital: a critical situation. This because the capacity of the third level hospital has been exceeded by the “avalanche” of patients with dengue.
The doctor indicates that the daily number of patients receiving has tripled hence, the doctors, the nurses, nor the facilities, are sufficient to give attention to all those who come to look for it.
Last week, both the Government -through the COED-such as the College of Medicinethey asked the Ministry of Health for more items, to meet the demand of this dengue epidemic, for which they requested the declaration of health emergency. It is estimated that The department requires around 12,000 items for health.
