One million people have died this year from COVID-19reported today the World Health Organization (WHO)who regretted that lives continue to be lost due to this disease despite the fact that all the tools to prevent it are available.
In the two and a half years since the pandemic began, 6.4 million people have died from COVID-19, of which 2.8 million have died in the Americas and, particularly, in the United States.
In Europe, more than two million people have died from this infection, for which treatments have been approved in the last year through international emergency procedures.
“Once again I call on all governments to make more efforts to vaccinate all health workers, older people and other risk groups so that 70% of the entire population is vaccinated,” said WHO Director-General Tedros. Adhanom Ghebreyesus, at a press conference.

Currently, only ten countries in the world have vaccination coverage below 10% and in all these cases, these are places that are facing humanitarian emergencies.
He also highlighted that in some nations, 100% of health workers and the elderly have received one of the approved vaccines against COVID-19, although the situation is still very unequal depending on the socio-economic status of the countries.
According to the latest WHO epidemiological report on the evolution of COVID-19, new cases have decreased by 9% in the last week, although one of the causes of this trend is the drastic reduction in the number of diagnostic tests that are carried out, which does not allow all infections to be detected.
