Calama city prosecutor Cristian Aliaga reported this Wednesday that one of those involved in two shootings that occurred Tuesday night in the northern city was killed. The armed attacks, which occurred a few minutes apart, left one person dead and five injured.
The first shooting was carried out from a vehicle, from where at least five shots were fired towards the Calama First Police Station, injuring two people who were in the place, without their lives being in danger. Later, the same vehicle traveled a few meters to the Turbus bus terminal, where it fired again, injuring three people and fatally impacting a fourth.
One of the suspects in the attack died after a shootout with Carabineros agents on Inés de Suárez street, Villa Los Transportistas, according to what was reported by prosecutor Aliaga. “At first, the investigations indicated that the vehicle involved was white, which led the Carabineros and PDI agents to deploy in search of those responsible. After a while, the first police officers found them and an investigation began. persecution through several streets, mainly in the south-west sector,” said the persecutor.
Aliaga also explained that the suspect “was ordered to stop, he would have hit Carabineros vehicles, he would have fled and the shots that caused his death would have been fired.”
Lieutenant Colonel Alexis Chamblas, meanwhile, indicated that “there are four Venezuelans who were wounded by bullets, and of whom three were injured and one died. We do not have further information regarding their situation in the country, whether they are regular or irregular, and in terms of investigation, the real motivations for this fact.”
After the event, the mayor of Calama, Eliecer Chamorro, together with the Regional Ministerial Secretariat (Seremi) for Education, decided to suspend classes this Wednesday throughout the commune.
