One person died and four others were injured during a shootout between police officers and a drunk man in Nicaragua, the National Police reported Thursday.
The shooting occurred on Wednesday night in the rural community of La Doctora, located in the municipality of Rosita, in the northern Caribbean of Nicaragua.
According to the Nicaraguan Police version, the man, identified as Javier Montoya Pravia and known as Arlen Javier Díaz Montoya, was shot at by a police patrol that had responded to an emergency call from a bar, where Montoya was allegedly threatening to the clients.

During the confrontation, the man died while agents Ever Martínez Vidaurre and Cliford Downs Charly were injured in the leg and shoulder, respectively, the Police said.
Two other people, identified as Osman Treminio Gutiérrez, 43, and a 17-year-old teenager, suffered injuries to their legs, according to the police report.
According to the National Police, the man was carrying 2 revolvers, 5 shell casings, 2 caliber 38 and 54 caliber 22 projectiles, which were seized.
Montoya had a history of murder, robbery with intimidation and illegal possession of a firearm, said the Police, who did not explain why he was released.
The Nicaraguan authorities did not report on the state of health of the wounded agents and civilians.
According to the National Police, a total of 517 agents have lost their lives while doing their duty since its foundation, in 1979, until so far in 2021.
