At least one person died and another 57 suffered injuries from the collision between two Metro trains that occurred today in Mexico City, local authorities reported.
“There are 57 people injured, some of them with minor injuries, but they still reached the hospitals and unfortunately there was one death,” said the mayoress of the Mexican capital, Claudia Sheinbaum, in a brief message to the media from the place. of the accident.
“The person who is most seriously ill is the train driver,” he added.
In turn, the mayor indicated that the accident had left four people trapped in the trains who have already been rescued.
The accident occurred between the Potrero and La Raza stations, which belong to Metro Line 3, which runs from the north to the south of the Mexican capital, one of the largest cities in America where some 20 million people live. Press media indicated that the trains collided in the tunnel that connects both stations.
Meanwhile, local television images showed injured people being treated in ambulances while dozens of passengers were evicted from the tracks.
The local Prosecutor’s Office announced that it initiated an investigation file into the accident.

For his part, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador expressed his condolences to the victims of the crash.
“I regret the accident in the Mexico City Metro. According to what I am informed, unfortunately one person lost his life and there are several injured,” he said on his Twitter account.
The Mexico City Metro was inaugurated in 1969 and has an extension of 226 kilometers and 195 stations on 12 different lines, according to the AFP news agency.
In 2021, the authorities estimated that the Metro was used that year by a total of 837 million passengers.
However, it has been criticized for lack of maintenance and investment and for some accidents that have occurred in recent years.
